Various: "Somebody Help Me" (1995)

Unreleased

Description: Benefit song for the homeless produced by Laramy Smith. Includes Touré Kunda among several other performers. This song is different from the Spencer Davis Group hit of the same name from 1966, although Spencer Davis contributed to this project.

Mr. Smith kindly provided the following insight on the development of the project (August 2010):
"Somebody Help Me" was designed to be a theme song for the homeless at homeless rallies and manifestations worldwide. The project started in Los Angeles in 1993, where I recorded the voice of aspiring actress Annette Austin singing lead. Shortly after, I added the voice of Spencer Davis and pedal steel played by "Sneaky Pete" Kleinow, then to Sacramento (California) at Studio Z where I added 72 voices of the Rev. Martin Luther King Choir members and the Genesis Choir of Genesis Church. The Rev. Martin Luther King Choir singers had moved from Atlanta and joined the Genesis Choir. Then in 1994 at Ferber Studio (Paris, France), I added the voices of Nina Hagen, Trio Esperança, Amina, Touré Kunda, Jacques Higelin and finally Princess Erika in 1995. Sadly, the project was never released. I tried to release it through labels that I had produced at in the past, but no one was interested because it dealt with the homeless. I invested three years of my life, blood, sweat, and tears into this project.
