Kaoma: World Beat (1989-12)Vinyl 12" 33 RPM album / Epic / E-46010 / US CD 5" album / Epic / EK-46010 / US Description: Studio album, including the major international hit "Lambada". Several members of Touré Kunda's backing band from the Celluloid era left to form Kaoma, including Michel Abihssira, Chyco Roger Dru, and producer Jean-Claude Bonaventure. Other members for the first album were Monica Nogueira, Jacky Arconte, Loalwa Braz, and Fania Niang. The group later released Tribal Pursuit (1991-07-08) and A La Media Noche (1998-11-10). Chico and Roberta, the children featured in the video for Kaoma's "Lambada", released Frente A Frente (1990), which included Jean-Claude Bonaventure, Michel Abihssira, and Ben Belinga. "Lambada" is credited to C. DeOliveira, but is derived from a song by the Bolivian group Los Kjarkas, "Llorando Se Fue", that was originally released on Canto A La Mujer De Mi Pueblo (1982). The World Beat insert acknowledges the contribution by members of Los Kjarkas: "La Lambada comes from saya, a Bolivian folk music. Ulysse and Gonzalo Hermosa and Olivier Lorsac contributed to its realization." |

Produced by Umbañ U Kset, Wasis Diop (listed as "Wazis"), Loy Erlich, and Philippe Cassegrain. All songs written by Umbañ U Kset, with Wasis Diop (listed as "Wazis Diop") as co-writer for "Sumasañone". Ismaila Touré performed with the group at some time, though not on the album. The experience likely influenced the development of the future Touré Kunda. Loy Erlich later performed on several Touré Kunda albums. Musicians: Umbañ U Kset (vocals, percussion), Wasis Diop (listed as "Wazis Diop") (guitars), Loy Alain Erlich (pianos, guitar), Tony M'Batchi Lelo (bass), Yegba (saxophones), Madiama Fall (percussion), Jean-Claude Montredon (drums, percussion). Manu Dibango Et Son Orchestre: "Le Soir Au Village" (1964)"Rumba Negrita" - Vinyl 7" 45 RPM single / Philips / 429.829 BE / France Description: Early single. In a RFI Musique interview published 2018-07-04, Sixu Tidiane Touré cited "Le Soir Au Village" as inspiration to write his first song during "classe de quatrième", which in the France education system is the 8th year of school at about age 13. Manu Dibango later wrote and recorded different versions of the song beginning in 1974. Tracks:
