In Memoriam - Ismaïla Touré


  • Ismaïla Touré, born 1950-04-24, passed away 2023-02-27 after a long illness. A funeral service was held 2023-03-03, at the André Grégoire intercommunal hospital in Montreuil, followed by interment in nearby Cimetière Nouveau.

      C'est avec une grande tristesse que nous annonçons le décès de notre cher Ismaïla Toure, fondateur et membre du groupe musical Toure Kunda. Ismaila est décédé ce matin, à l'âge de 73 ans, des suites d'une longue maladie à Paris.
      Ismaïla Toure était un musicien, un artiste, un père et un ami aimé. Il a laissé une empreinte indélébile dans le monde de la musique et de la culture. Nous sommes fiers de son héritage et de toutes les contributions qu'il a apportées tout au long de sa vie.
      Ismaila Toure a fondé le groupe Toure Kunda avec son frère aîné, Sixu Tidiane Toure, en 1978. Le groupe a connu un grand succès grâce à leur musique qui mélangeait des rythmes africains traditionnels avec des influences funk, reggae et pop. Ils ont sorti plus d'une douzaine d'albums au cours de leur carrière, et ont joué dans des festivals et des concerts à travers le monde.

      It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our dear Ismaïla Toure, founder and member of the musical group Toure Kunda. Ismaila died this morning, at the age of 73, following a long illness in Paris.
      Ismaïla Toure was a beloved musician, artist, father and friend. He left an indelible mark on the world of music and culture. We are proud of his legacy and all the contributions he made throughout his life.
      Ismaïla Toure founded the group Toure Kunda with his older brother, Sixu Tidiane Toure, in 1978. The group achieved great success with their music which blended traditional African rhythms with funk, reggae and pop influences. They have released over a dozen albums during their career, and have performed at festivals and concerts around the world.
      Beyond his musical career, Ismaila Toure was a passionate social and cultural activist. He worked to promote cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue, and was a strong advocate for peace, social justice and equality chances. We are proud of his commitments to the community and his convictions.
      The Toure family would like to thank everyone who has expressed their sympathy and support since the death of Ismaila Toure was announced. We also ask that our privacy be respected during this difficult time. Funeral details will be communicated in due course.

In Memoriam - Amadou Touré


  • Amadou Touré, born 1943 or 1946, collapsed during a show at Chapelle des Lombards and died 1983-01-25 on the way to the hospital. He was interred in Ziguinchor, Senegal.

  • A memorial concert was held on 1983-03-14 at Casino de Paris.
