1948-1993: Beginnings To Touré Kunda


  • 1991: Hamidou Touré leaves Touré Kunda after tenth album and second live album Sounké.
  • 1990: The four Touré brothers of Touré Kunda release ninth album Salam, featuring a return to the group’s musical roots.
  • 1989: Hamidou Touré joins Touré Kunda.
  • 1976: Hamidou Touré creates the Xumaru orchestra and continues to direct the group for 15 years, and during that time works with the group Yillenkare to support Soninké culture.
  • 1969: Hamidou Touré joins La Troupe Internationale De Mauritanie and participates in the Panafrican Festivals of Algiers and Tunis.
  • 1966: Hamidou Touré studies nursing in Nouackchott, Mauritania, while also working on music and mastering percussion skills.
  • 1948: Hamidou Touré (later Séta Touré) is born 1948-02-10 in Mauritania.

Séta's son Daby Touré, of Touré Touré, performs acoustic guitar and backing vocals on "Yafomi", "Boundi", "Soma", "Dental", "Mandela", and "Diamma". "Mandela" includes elements of "Rellerrio" from previous album Africa.
